Energy market trading game

KYOS developed a computer game that helps players to expand and apply their knowledge about energy markets. Players are encouraged to make money through a combination of trade tactics and risk reduction. The learning objectives are:

• Understand the difference between various products (spot, forward, option, imbalance)
• Interpret market statistics, such as bid-ask spread, volatility, exposure, option delta
• Learn how to dispatch a power plant and contract the right amounts of fuels and CO2 credits
• Learn how to optimize spark and dark spreads
• Learn how to hedge a future open position with forwards and options
• Learn how to serve a customer portfolio with own production or market contracts
• Increase knowledge on portfolio statistics: Mark-to-Market, Value-at-Risk, Risk Capital
• Learn how to optimally use storage assets
• Learn how trades are processed within a company, including confirmations and risk control
• See how risk-taking can lead to cost
• Learn how to interpret news and respond to it

The trading game works with Excel interfaces, so is easy to deploy and operate. We use the game in our own tradings, but also provide for external users.
